Polymer Pavements focuses exclusively on manufacturing environmentally friendly polymer products for use in  road construction. The company has partnered with leading international polymer companies to research and develop nanotech polymer products for soil stabilization and for road construction.

These products are tested in accordance to the highest standards to ensure that they will meet and exceed industry requirements,  and are manufactured according to ISO9001 and ISO14000 standards.  Polymer technology is the basic building blocks of plastic and has been around in various forms for more than 100 years.  Today, we are surrounded by polymers in all aspects of our lives, from construction of cell phones, laptops, paints, to polyaniline used on the space shuttle to prevent wires and metals from rusting, Kevlar, bullet proof vests to carbon fibre, used in the construction of Formula One cars to the manufacture of high-tech sails for the Volvo around-the-world-yacht races.

Now Polymer Pavements are using the latest generation of nano-polymers for road stabilization.  All SoilTech polymer stabilized roads will exceed the international 80kN AASHTO standard for  single-axle standard load bearing capacity.   These products are now manufactured by Polymer Pavements on three different continents.











The products can be used in a variety of applications, including:

- construction of roads, by stabilizing base and sub-base layers
- heavy haul roads for mines
- hard stands and container depots
- aircraft landing pads
- dust control -  waste dumps (mines)
- parking lots
- Pothole repairs
- Lining of canals




Traditional construction of layered, cement stabilized roads, using borrow-pit materials, have long been known as extremely damaging to our environment. The use of borrow-pit materials is causing irreparable damage to the environment. Road authorities and governments are realizing that the continuous use of  use borrow-pit materials, are no longer sustainable.

Polymer stabilization, in most instances, minimizes the need for borrow-pit materials. 

In-situ aggregates and other materials, normally discarded for road construction,

can used with SoilTech polymers and Polymer technologies are immeasurably more carbon friendly than traditional layered, cement-stabilized roads.  *Independent reports have shown  SoilTech polymers, from Polymer Pavements, produces a meager 2,4% carbon in comparison to cement stabilized, layered roads.  One kilometer of cement stabilized road, seven meters wide, will produce 50,449 tons of carbon into the air as opposed to 1,217 tons produced  by our polymer stabilized road!

As with all emerging technologies, there are many pretenders.  SoilTech polymers for road stabilization, is a unique,  high-performance elastomers. The versatility of SoilTech polymers is due to their distinctive molecular structure, which can be precisely controlled and tailored to perform in specific applications. They also can provide formulation flexibility in commonly used thermoplastic processing technology. These polymers can be compounded to produce materials, which can improve the strength and emodulus of marginal aggregates for road stabilization and construction.

Nkomati haul roads are traversed by fully laden 300ton dumper trucks.   The only material available on the mine was normal waste materials.  Sample  materials were taken by the Polymer Pavements to their labs for testing.  Using different combinations of the mine’s aggregates, mixed with SoilTech *Mk. III polymers, the * Third generation macro stabilizers.
